In the spring of  2000, Bangor Police officer Keith Mercier and Bangor firefighters Troy Lare & Scott Bolduc talked about organizing a city hockey team. Before we could gather players we had to find a league that was accepting teams. After a few phone calls, we were entered into the Brewer men's league that played on Sunday nights.
A list was posted at city offices, and after a long search was completed, we decided that we needed more players than we had. A list was then posted in Emergency Rooms in the city. We gained more players from doctors and nurses that were interested. Our first year, we also got a few players from a disbanded team.
The Captain for the season was Keith, and the assistants were Troy & Scott. That first year our team had a record of 3-23-1. The team's name was suggested by an emergency department nurse. She said that because we all worked in different departments of "public service" that we should be name Third Watch after the popular TV show on NBC.
Our second season of 2001-2002 started with team elected captains. Our captain was Mike Schroeder, with the assistants being, Scott Thomas, Troy Lare and Scott Bolduc. This year was also our first year as a "travel squad". The travel team was organized to play in benefit games to raise money for charities. In February of 2002, we invited the Philadelphia Chiefs to Maine for a benefit weekend. Together we raised over $4,700.00 for the victims of the tragedy in New York.
Our third year (2002-2003) started with the same captains as the previous year. The travel squad represents many people in the public service field. We had 6 firefighters, 3 police officers, 3 medical people that work in one of our hospitals, a school teacher, a public safety dispatcher, a member of the Maine Army National Guard and members that just love to play hockey. The 2002-2003 season marked the first full year of our Travel Squad and new uniforms were purchased for this team.
Our 4th year, gave us our first two trophies. We won the 'B' division in an MDA tournament in Orlando FLA and we won our first league title.
Our 5th season was a success, as we increased the amount raised for charity to $38,000.00.
Our sixth season was again fun for the team. By the end of the season, we had helped raise a total of $58,500.00 for great charites.
Our web page is set up to review the seasons as you like. Check out the stats and player bios throughout the years. We would like to thank our players, fans and sponsors for all of the support that we have had throughout our years together.
Our over all record after 9 seasons is  92-157-16 , with our best season being the 2006-2007 year (18-5-2). We have helped raise over $92,000.00 for charites
If you are interested in playing some games for charity, drop us a line. We will travel to locations in New England, and other places if it is possible. Want to come to Maine? Let us know and we will schedule a game or 2, to raise money for a Children's charity of our choice.
